Making every day buildings shine in the "Golden Hour!

Recently our long term customer Temperzone asked us to photograph their Sydney Headquarters with the shots to be used in a Corporate Profile Document being produced by an Auckland New Zealand advertising agency.

The agency gave a specific brief for "Golden Hour" shots. Golden hour is when the balance between the outside light and the internal light produces an inner glow in the building. Its a technique often used to produce dramatic images of every day buildings

Because of the orientation of the building we were not sure whether a dawn or dusk image would produce the best result. With the key images required of a portion of the building facing south and south east and hemmed in by surrounding buildings we decided to shoot both the eevening golden hour and the morning.

Fortunately we had perfect weather and both morning and evening results were excellent.

The photography was done by Jochen Spencer* and Ian Spencer using a Sony A7 and a Nikon D800. In total we took more than 200 images as the light continuously changed.

The images below were the chosen morning and evening shots. Both shots required extensive retouching of the verge around the building due to natural discolouration of the concrete.
